The Problem with Traditional Mattresses
Standard foam and spring mattresses are solid, dense structures. When a baby rolls face-down — a common occurrence during sleep — their nose and mouth press directly against that surface. The foam traps exhaled carbon dioxide (CO₂) in a pocket around the baby's face. As the CO₂ concentration rises, the oxygen level drops. Pediatric sleep researchers have identified this CO₂ rebreathing as a key biological mechanism linked to sudden unexpected infant death (SUID). Every fraction of a second matters.
